Amman Valley Club Profile

New Year, New Beginnings

Established over 35 years ago, Amman Valley Radio Control Club is a multi-discipline model flying club operating from a site situated in the village of Gwaun-Cae-Gurwen, only a short step from the M4 near Swansea and overlooked by the imposing backdrop of the spectacular Black Mountains.

The Club has seen a steady growth over the last few years with a regularly busy flight line featuring a good mix of models and of course, included free of charge, a copious amount of Club banter. When not visiting the flying site, the members regularly assist with the Club talks and displays performed at local community events, scout groups and many of the schools in the area.

Over the years, the Club has been fortunate to have been awarded several community grants enabling us to provide improved facilities such as parking, a lounge, toilets, grounds maintenance equipment and training facilities including a simulator, electric and glow trainers with both mode 1 and 2 buddy systems. The Club is particularly well suited to less able individuals with on-site parking and easy access to the pit and flight line areas.

Actively encouraging its members to take part in the BMFA Achievement Schemes, supported by a team of instructors and examiners, the Club now has the vast majority of its members holding at least an ‘A’ Certificate. We also hold regular raffles, a twice-yearly BBQ/Fly-in, occasional nights out and the infamous (well at least in our Club) Dazza’s Café, with cooked breakfasts, burgers, rolls and even the occasional naughty treat. We are also fortunate to have several budding photographers in the Club who are always keen to help make your pride and joy look its absolute best (or sometimes not)

We think he might have forgotten something!                        Helicopters and drones welcome

The Club has spent the last few years in negotiations with our landlords to facilitate the move to a long-term lease for our site. This year saw this come to fruition with the Club now the proud owners of a 25 year, 7 days per week lease. This will provide the long-term security the Club requires to allow us to develop and grow and providing potential access to better funding opportunities for the future.
